Broadly speaking, these types of disorders occur in the form of compromised rejuvenation, and will eventually compromise the overall well-being and health

Why Renovations Can Make You Want To Scream Into A Pillow Sometimes

by Sherry Petersik @ Young House Love

Our post on Instagram last night was admittedly a little cryptic. We were having an extra frustrating day thanks to two discouraging duplex-related blows that came flying at us rapid-fire, in the span of a mere 10 hours. We’ve always tried to share the bad and the ugly along with the good – like talking about blowing a timeline or breaking a budget (or a ceramic animal). Or when we can’t find the water meter for a month or we fail our irrigation inspection in three different and spectacular ways). Sometimes on “Bad News Day 1” you don’t really feel like getting into all of the nitty-gritty details because you’re still in that “repeatedly screaming WHYYYY?!?!?”

Discussing Mattress Pads vs Toppers

by Lindsay S @ Choose Mattress

After a long hard day’s work, many of us look forward to coming home and crashing out on a comfortable bed. However, we get home, throw our clothes to the floor and jump in bed only to find it’s no longer as comfortable as it once was. What to do next? Perhaps buying a new mattress isn’t an option, after all they can be quite expensive, or perhaps your landlord advises against it, or maybe even donating a mattress where you live is difficult. There are numerous constraints one can come across. In which case, an excellent answer to these

Mattress Disposal and Recycling

Approaches to Guiding Your Baby to Good Sleep

by Guest Blogger @ Naturepedic Blog

No one appreciates sleep more than a parent of a newborn or young infant. This is because sleep is a completely different experience in the first four months of life, from the way sleep is experienced the rest of one’s life. For all children 4 months of age and older, and all healthy adults, sleep is a well-regulated and incredibly necessary activity, that really does offer balm to the mind, and helps the mind think. The pattern of sleep from ages 4 months and onward is defined by a very regular pattern of light sleep becoming deep sleep, then deep sleep becoming lighter sleep, moving into a phase of REM sleep (when most dreams occur), and then emerging from REM sleep at which point everyone gets to choose – wake up or do another cycle. The sleep cycle in a person 4 months of age and older goes as follows: – Stage I: a brief period that happens just as you fall[...]

Considerations Before Buying A Mattress

by Lindsay S @ Choose Mattress

Our New Source For Making Family Photo Books

Ever since MyPublisher shut down last year, one of the most frequent questions we’ve been getting is “who are you going to use to make your family photo book now??” For months and months, we had no good answer because we only print these annual “family yearbooks” in January, once the previous year has wrapped up (you can see examples of them here). But now that 2018 is here, we’ve officially added our 2017 album to the stack and we are VERY happy with the result. We’re no experts on photo printing services by any means, but after becoming dedicated users of MyPublisher for YEARS (we purchased our first annual album from them back in 2011) we

Tempur-Pedic Alternatives In 2018

So we called up a couple who have lived in an 188 square foot space for over two years, and we asked them all of your burning questions to find out the rosy (and not so rosy) parts of tiny house living. And it was FASCINATING. Plus, we’ve hit a big sentimental milestone at home, and Sherry’s finally jumping on the bandwagon of a certain decorating trend. What’s Up With Thread Count?

by Victoria @ Naturepedic Blog

Anyone who has shopped for sheets has noticed different thread counts. And as Naturepedic customers may have noticed, we recently gave our organic cotton sheets an upgrade and switched from 300 thread count to approximately 400 thread count. But what exactly is thread count and why does it matter? What Is Thread Count? When looking at the thread count of sheets, you’re not just looking at a random number. However, it is a common misconception that a higher thread count directly translates to better quality sheets. Thread count is actually the number of threads per square inch (this includes horizontally and vertically). The finer the materials sheets are made of, the higher the thread count. You can typically assume that the higher the thread count, the softer the sheets. Therefore, thread count has an effect on the feel of your sheets, but it is not the only factor that will affect the overall quality of your sheets. What Else Should[...]

Finding Non-Toxic Cribs for Your Organic Crib Mattress | Naturepedic Blog

Naturepedic Blog

What is a parent to do? A recent discussion on Debra Lynn Dadd’s (aka the Queen of Green) Green Living Q & A blog highlights the problems involved in finding a truly non-toxic crib. Sleeping inside Studies have found that too many layers on baby can lead to overheating and can put them at risk. With this in mind, here are some tips for winter sleeping inside: – Remember that too many layers in an already warm room can hinder your baby’s ability to regulate her temperature and can play havoc with her natural breathing pattern. Why Good Sleep Matters So Much

by Lindsay S @ Choose Mattress

We humans spend about one-third of our lives asleep. This one-third greatly impacts the quality of the other two-thirds of our lives. Many things contribute to a good night’s rest, and your mattress lies at the foundation. According to WebMD, when it comes to sleep quality, “to get it right, you’ve got to start with the basics and your mattress is the first building block to a restful slumber.” After all, if you’re tossing and turning all night, struggling to get your body into a pain-free position, your sleep quality will be poor, and your wellness will suffer. The Importance

Some say gallery walls are trending out in favor of larger scale art. Maybe. It makes sense that gallery walls on every wall (especially the ones with a ton of tiny frames) might feel a little less “new and fresh” these days. But I’d argue that a collection of frames hung together on the wall feels pretty classic if you stop and think about it. Watch Home Alone. They totally have a gallery wall going up their formal staircase in the foyer where Kevin sleds and hurls paint cans. But one spot I love for a gallery wall these days is actually around a TV. Why? Winter is also better known as cold and flu season. Sniffling, sneezing and coughing can seriously put a damper on your winter activities. So while you can’t control what your coworkers or people in public are doing to put health first, you can control what happens in your home. To stay happy this winter, we share some healthy home habits for you to implement this winter. 1.) Don’t Skip Your Cleaning Ritual The days are getting darker earlier, and the temperature is dropping. When you get home from work or simply have a lazy Saturday, it’s easy to let household cleaning fall out of pattern. In the winter, however, you are bringing home all kinds of germs, so make sure you clean surfaces regularly. You don’t want to be surrounded by germs. 2.) Stay On Top Of Clutter The dim lights of winter have proven to have a negative effect on many people’s mental health. Studies also show that surrounding[...]

Houston, We Have A Big Boy Bedroom (Buh-Bye Crib!)

by Sherry Petersik @ Young House Love

Our little man’s room is looking a little different these days, thanks to finally being done with the crib (our kids love a crib) and making a few other tweaks to the space while we were at it. He’ll be four this April, and he finally decided he was done with the crib earlier in January, which was bittersweet. 6 sneaky food additives: Where they like to hide & why you should avoid them at all costs

That said, "caramel coloring" is a totally different beastie all together: when it's mixed with ammonia, it creates 2-methylimidazole and 4-methylimidazole, which are rather potent carcinogens. This nasty additive is often used in soft...
